At AYTM, we work purposefully with sustainability as an integrated part of our business. Our approach is based on environmental, social, and economic responsibility.
Through certifications, responsible production, conscious material choices, well-considered design, and optimized packaging, we strive to create products with a long lifespan and responsible value creation.
Our work is primarily supported by the UN Global Compact’s 10 principles.
Through our membership in the UN Global Compact (since 2015), we have committed to working with their 10 principles within human rights, labor rights, environment, and anti-corruption.
In addition, our work is also supported by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, where we focus on Goal 8, 12, and 17.

Materials
Carefully Selected Materials
At AYTM we work consciously and purposefully with material selection as a central initiative to create long-lasting products with high quality and a strong design expression.
We prioritize natural, renewable, and innovative materials that both contribute to the aesthetics of the products and reduce their environmental footprint.
By choosing natural materials, AYTM ensures that each product has a unique expression, while durability and functionality are strengthened.
We use wood types such as oak, walnut, and ash and have since 2021 worked actively with FSC® certification to ensure responsible forest management in the supply chain through FSC®.
Leather is used as a natural by-product of the meat industry, where we at AYTM set requirements for animal welfare as well as social and environmental standards among suppliers. Within textiles, AYTM prioritizes cotton and wool over synthetic alternatives due to their natural, durable, and functional properties.
In addition, we exclusively use feather/down and feathers as a natural filling in cushions and work closely with suppliers that comply with the EU’s strict regulations on animal welfare. Glass, ceramics, and metal are also used as important materials, as they are characterized by long lifespans and strong recyclability.
Overall, our choice of materials is an active and consistent initiative that supports responsible production, high quality, and products designed to last for many years.
Packaging
AYTM’s concrete initiatives for more well-considered packaging
Packaging plays an important role in the protection and communication of AYTM’s products. The majority of our packaging is made from FSC® certified cardboard and paper, while plastic is only used to a limited extent where necessary to ensure that products are not damaged during transport.
Where possible, we use paper-based solutions to secure products within the packaging, and for more fragile products, EPE foam is used as an alternative to styrofoam.
These choices are part of AYTM’s new requirements for packaging design, and we are actively working to phase out older packaging solutions.
Additionally, we prioritize local packaging suppliers close to the manufacturers to reduce transportation. The majority of the cardboard boxes are FSC®-certified and supplied flat-packed, which optimizes space and reduces transport volume.
Certifications & partnerships
At AYTM we also collaborate with independent third parties to ensure fair and safe working conditions in the supply chain, as well as high quality and safety in the products. The work is based on internationally recognized standards and long-term partnerships.
The GoodWeave certification also contributes to education, medical assistance, and support for workers, their families, and local communities.
As part of our responsible sourcing, AYTM is a member of amfori and actively participates in the amfori BSCI program.
Through BSCI audits, we work systematically with quality assurance of our supply chain with a focus on decent working conditions, fair wages and working hours, health and safety, and zero tolerance for child labor and discrimination.
By consciously collaborating with few but carefully selected producers, AYTM creates the basis for close and long-term partnerships that provide better insight into production conditions and ensure good terms and working conditions at the factories.

Sustainable Development
Decent work and economic growth
To ensure decent working conditions in our supply chain, AYTM collaborates with amfori BSCI on regular monitoring of suppliers.
In addition, we certify all our rugs through GoodWeave to actively promote decent work in the textile industry.
Furthermore, the collaboration with FSC contributes to responsible forestry, as well as decent conditions for people in the world’s forest areas.
Internally, we work to support skills development and career building by offering internships.
Several former interns have, after completing their education, become permanent employees, which contributes to long-term employment and knowledge building.
